His outlook was completely western with an inherent condescending attitude towards traditional sources of knowledge. He did not attempt to create a consensus-based model of evolving a political culture; nor did he attempt to establish a robust succession plan which is key to a thriving democracy. The first mistake ensured that there was a fanatical following of his ideology after his death (along with the reactionary fanatical dismissal of his ideology). The second mistake meant that his family could just milk his legacy using the dynastic culture that India is so used to.

You cant have it both ways. For so many years, we have been force fed the myth that Nehru (after Gandhi) was the sole reason behind India's glory at the neglect of other giant contemporaries; Now that the disillusionment has set in in comparison to other countries, he is being portrayed as the sole reason behind India's sluggish growth. One follows the other.

Regards,
Lord LabakudossLord Labakudosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17343421197725727301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2383732783190307682.post-15656521428141645912015-12-15T15:32:09.167-05:002015-12-15T15:32:09.167-05:00You are listing his failures and saying that he is...You are listing his failures and saying that he is a failure. His successes outweigh his failures.
Numerous countries got independence during that time and many of them went into an unending cycle of violence and civil war. The stable leadership and his aversion to any isms such as Hinduism, Communism,Capitalism made sure that India didnt become a pakistan or nepal. India has all the potential to become a collapsed state like these countries. With no commonalities between the states, the image of Congress and Gandhi and Nehru were the only unifying factors for India at that stage.
Till date, no other PMs have established institutions which can stand test of time such as IIT, DRDO, ISRO . It took almost 40 years to establish another IIT.
1. Razakkar army went on rampage in Hyderabad and it was cracked down by Patel.Yes, Privat militia violence was crushed by state sponsored military action and any military action is painful. Nehru was highly reluctant to use force. Patel handled Hyderabad and Nehru handled Kashmir. we know the results. Operation Polo was a painful thing in short term. Otherwise, we would have another pakistan state sitting in the middle of country producing more problems.
2. The communist govts that captured power outside India those days, toppled governments, killed millions of civilians in name of communism and it was blood bath. Nehru toppled it unethically but later his notes say how sorry he felt for committing an unethical act.
The communist government of Kerala was the worlds first democratically elected government. In fact, it was Indias democracy that enabled a new communist system to evolve. There are few set ups in the world where communism and democracy coexist.
3. Even if china attacks us today, we will suffer the same fate. It has the biggest army in the world and the second biggest economy .
In fact, when the West viewed the first election in India with skepticism by saying Democracy in India as the worlds biggest gamble, he proved that Democracy is best suited for India.
Nehru was one of the last honest politicians that Congress and this country produced. As with any leader, he had had his own share of wrong decisions. But his intentions and his ideas that he choose for India at that time were almost always correct.
No wonder, he gets more brickbats because most of his critics are the followers of any one of the "isms" ( communism, capitalism)
AJAXhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05538410255155570559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2383732783190307682.post-51284754350679391382015-12-15T11:28:56.085-05:002015-12-15T11:28:56.085-05:00So apt that you credited jeyamohan as its exactly ...So apt that you credited jeyamohan as its exactly similar to his style of talking without facts to blame or praise anyone.

Lets take bloodbath. He as prime minister presided over one of the deadliest bloodbaths in the history of mankind and couldnt do anything in the forced migration of millions of people

He presided over the worst communal killings in the history of independent India in hyderabad where 2 lakh muslims where massacred just for the fact that they where muslims and the army under Nehru was a silent spectator and he used all his might to hide the facts about this carnage.

Kamaraj plan brought by kamaraj was for elders paving way for youngsters and Kamaraj quit his CM post.Who was the old man sticking on to the constitutional post

The first democratically elected communist govt in the world in kerala was dismissed on flimsy grounds using Art 356 by Nehru the great democrat.

The role of the central govt and states studied atleast in school syllabus will make a person not credit the PM for vaying improvements in health parameters in various states. Better results in health indicators and increase in life expectancy happened in states better governed and I hope you do not credit high HDI in kerala to nehru dismissing the communist govt and spread of education among all caste groups in TN to Nehru having a strong view against reservation and advising states to not give reservation.

Son of lalu or paswan getting posts after winning elections is considered a big sin but the number of nehru relatives, kashmiri pandits getting out of turn promotions, constitutional posts under Nehru can run to pages.Armed forces is the direct responsibility of the centre and India faced the worst defeat under the great nehru in 1962 and he gave a farewell message to assam as PM.

. For all his faults and shortcomings,he was a manishankar aiyer of that era surrounded by hundreds of subramanian swamys in congress and was successful in taming them and help India remain secular and progress a bit rationally,get rid of many superstitions and invest in science .He deserves praise for itபூவண்ணன்https://www.blogger.com/profile/04717362036904883702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2383732783190307682.post-29965250313729549762015-12-15T07:47:32.814-05:002015-12-15T07:47:32.814-05:00மிக நல்ல கட்டுரை, வணக்கங்கள் பலவேறு அரசியல் காரணங்...

மொரப்பூர்.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2383732783190307682.post-71992021090162242042015-12-14T16:45:23.747-05:002015-12-14T16:45:23.747-05:00you should write about nehru's economic polici...you should write about nehru's economic policies taking into account the value of rupee at that time it was one of the best currencies at that point of time now go back to ur sources and surmise again.
சரவணன்Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2383732783190307682.post-20011097531010009602015-12-14T01:12:54.437-05:002015-12-14T01:12:54.437-05:00First finance minister -- It was RK Shanmugam Chet...First finance minister -- It was RK Shanmugam Chetty, not TK.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2383732783190307682.post-38925925610350193522015-12-13T12:40:21.431-05:002015-12-13T12:40:21.431-05:00Hi,
